PSJA ISD’s Mathematics Instructional Framework Recognized as Exemplary by TEA

PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) is proud to announce that its Mathematics Instructional Framework has been recognized as an Exemplary Framework by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on the Strong Foundations Planning website. This prestigious acknowledgment underscores the district’s commitment to excellence in mathematics instruction and curriculum development.

PSJA ISD’s Mathematics Framework received an outstanding 20 out of 21 on the state’s evaluation, showcasing its strength as a well-structured, research-based approach to teaching and learning mathematics. This achievement demonstrates the dedication, expertise, and collaborative efforts of PSJA educators in designing a curriculum that enhances student learning outcomes.

“We are elated to receive this honor and extend our heartfelt congratulations to our team for their hard work and commitment to high-quality mathematics instruction,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias. “This recognition affirms our efforts in fostering a rigorous and engaging learning environment that ensures students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.”

The recognition aligns with PSJA ISD’s participation in the Strong Foundations Grant Program, established under House Bill 4545 (87th Texas Legislature, 2021). Through this initiative, the district is enhancing its K-5 mathematics curriculum, ensuring a smooth transition for students from elementary to middle and high school. The grant provides essential resources, instructional leadership, and curriculum planning support to strengthen math proficiency at all grade levels.

“I am incredibly proud to have led the development of this instructional framework and see it earn such prestigious recognition. The aim was to assist school systems in creating a targeted instructional framework for mathematics, aligning it with the district’s strategic plan and ensuring the proper systems and structures are in place for the effective implementation of high-quality materials and research-based strategies,” said PSJA Executive Officer for Secondary Schools Dr. Iris Guajardo. “This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and collaborative effort of our team, reinforcing our commitment to providing high-quality instruction that drives student success.”

By incorporating engaging, real-life problem-solving strategies, PSJA ISD is fostering a culture where students not only learn mathematics but also understand its real-world applications. From early childhood through high school, students engage in daily proficiency exercises and interactive activities that promote deeper comprehension.

PSJA ISD serves over 30,000 students from preschool through post-secondary education, reinforcing the district’s commitment to providing opportunities for all. Parents interested in enrolling their children can find more information at www.psjaisd.us/whypsja.
