PSJA North Early College High School Raider Band Advances to UIL 5A State Marching Band Contest

MERCEDES – The PSJA North Early College High School Raider Band has earned a spot among the best in the state after placing 2nd out of 27 high school marching bands at the University of Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A Area Marching Contest held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Mercedes Stadium.

With their performance, the PSJA North ECHS Raider Band will advance to the UIL 5A State Marching Band Contest, taking place at the San Antonio Alamodome, November 10-11, 2025.

This year’s show, titled “On Top of Spaghetti,” is a fun and high-energy production that takes audiences on a ride through sights, sounds, and tastes of a classic Italian Restaurant. Featuring musical favorites such as On Top of Old Smokey, Funiculì Funiculà, Tarantella Napoletana, and That’s Amore, the PSJA North ECHS Raider Band serves up a feat for the ears with lively arrangements and solos on flute, trumpet, accordion, soprano sax, and a duet featuring trombone and tuba.

The performance comes to life with rolling tables draped in red-and-white checkered tablecloths, mile long spaghetti noodles piled high on a giant plate, a 7-foot meatball centerpiece, and vibrant splashes of color from the Cologuard.

“We are incredibly proud of our Raider Band for their dedication and outstanding achievement,” said PSJA Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor. “Congratulations band students and directors!”

The PSJA ISD Fine Arts Department continues to provide students with opportunities to develop their artistic talents and perform at the highest levels. The PSJA North ECHS Raider Band’s advancement to the State Marching Contest shines a spotlight on the strength of PSJA ISD’s Fine Arts programs and the supportive community that helps students reach their full potential both on and off the field.

Congratulations to the PSJA North ECHS Raider Band on this accomplishment, and best of luck as they represent PSJA ISD and the Rio Grande Valley at the UIL 5A State Marching Band Contest!
